What is Courage?
勇気って何？
-“The state of the mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain etc”.
「困難や危険、痛みなどに向き合わせてくれる考えや心の状態。」
-“Courage is not the absence of fear but doing things that you are afraid to do”
「勇気とは、恐れがないことではなく、恐れているものに対して行動することです。」
(Isaiah 60:1) “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
（イザヤ60:1）起きよ。光を放て。あなたの光が来て、主の栄光があなたの上に輝いているからだ。
-To move forward in life and reach your destiny, you have to be courageous. Courage is so important.
人生で前進し、使命に近づくとき、勇気を持つ必要があります。勇気はとても重要です。
1. God tells us to be courageous
神様は私たちに勇敢であるようにと言っている
(Joshua 1:9) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
（ヨシュア1:9）わたしはあなたに命じたではないか。強くあれ。雄々しくあれ。恐れてはならない。おののいてはならない。あなたの神、主が、あなたの行く所どこにでも、あなたとともにあるからである。」
-God says ‘Do not be afraid’ 365 times in the bible. It is important to be courageous!!
聖書の中で神様は365回「恐れてはならない」と言っている。勇敢であることは大切！

2. An example from the bible
聖書からの例
(1 Samuel 17:45-50/The Message) David answered, "You come at me with sword and spear and battle-ax. I come at you in the name of GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel's troops, whom you curse and mock. This very day GOD is handing you over to me. I'm about to kill you, cut off your head, and serve up your body and the bodies of your Philistine buddies to the crows and coyotes. The whole earth will know that there's an extraordinary God in Israel. And everyone gathered here will learn that GOD doesn't save by means of sword or spear. The battle belongs to GOD—he's handing you to us on a platter!" That roused the Philistine, and he started toward David. David took off from the front line, running toward the Philistine. David reached into his pocket for a stone, slung it, and hit the Philistine hard in the forehead, embedding the stone deeply. The Philistine crashed facedown in the dirt. That's how David beat the Philistine—with a sling and a stone. He hit him and killed him. No sword for David!
（1サムエル17:45-50）ダビデはペリシテ人に言った。「おまえは、剣と、槍と、投げ槍を持って、私に向かって来るが、私は、おまえがなぶったイスラエルの戦陣の神、万軍の主の御名によって、おまえに立ち向かうのだ。きょう、主はおまえを私の手に渡される。私はおまえを打って、おまえの頭を胴体から離し、きょう、ペリシテ人の陣営のしかばねを、空の鳥、地の獣に与える。すべての国は、イスラエルに神がおられることを知るであろう。この全集団も、主が剣や槍を使わずに救うことを知るであろう。この戦いは主の戦いだ。主はおまえたちをわれわれの手に渡される。」そのペリシテ人は、立ち上がり、ダビデを迎え撃とうと近づいて来た。ダビデもすばやく戦場を走って行き、ペリシテ人に立ち向かった。ダビデは袋の中に手を差し入れ、石を一つ取り、石投げでそれを放ち、ペリシテ人の額を打った。石は額に食い込み、彼はうつぶせに倒れた。こうしてダビデは、石投げと一つの石で、このペリシテ人に勝った。ダビデの手には、一振りの剣もなかったが、このペリシテ人を打ち殺してしまった。
(1 Samuel 17:34-37a/The Message) David said, "I've been a shepherd, tending sheep for my father. Whenever a lion or bear came and took a lamb from the flock, I'd go after it, knock it down, and rescue the lamb. If it turned on me, I'd grab it by the throat, wring its neck, and kill it. Lion or bear, it made no difference—I killed it. And I'll do the same to this Philistine pig who is taunting the troops of God-Alive. GOD, who delivered me from the teeth of the lion and the claws of the bear, will deliver me from this Philistine."
（1サムエル17:34-37a）ダビデはサウルに言った。「しもべは、父のために羊の群れを飼っています。獅子や、熊が来て、群れの羊を取って行くと、私はそのあとを追って出て、それを殺し、その口から羊を救い出します。それが私に襲いかかるときは、そのひげをつかんで打ち殺しています。このしもべは、獅子でも、熊でも打ち殺しました。あの割礼を受けていないペリシテ人も、これらの獣の一匹のようになるでしょう。生ける神の陣をなぶったのですから。」ついで、ダビデは言った。「獅子や、熊の爪から私を救い出してくださった主は、あのペリシテ人の手からも私を救い出してくださいます。」
3. How do we grow in courage?
どのようにして勇気を増し加えることができるか？
(1 John 4:4/The Message) You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
（1ヨハネ4:4）子どもたちよ。あなたがたは神から出た者です。そして彼らに勝ったのです。あなたがたのうちにおられる方が、この世のうちにいる、あの者よりも力があるからです。
(Joshua 1:5) All your life, no one will be able to hold out against you. In the same way I was with Moses, I'll be with you. I won't give up on you; I won't leave you.
