(Acts 4:36/NLT) …there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means "Son of Encouragement").
(使徒 4:36) 使徒たちによってバルナバ（訳すと、慰めの子）と呼ばれていたヨセフがいた。
A courageous networker
勇気を持って繋がっていく
(Acts 9:27) Then Barnabas brought him to the apostles and told them how Saul had seen the Lord on the way to Damascus and how the Lord had spoken to Saul. He also told them that Saul had preached boldly in the name of Jesus in Damascus.
(使徒 9:27/共同訳) しかしバルナバは、サウロを連れて使徒たちのところへ案内し、サウロが旅の途中で主に出会い、主に語りかけられ、ダマスコでイエスの名によって大胆に宣教した次第を説明した。
A faithful encourager
忠実な励まし手
(Acts 11:22-26) When the church at Jerusalem heard what had happened, they sent Barnabas to Antioch. (23) When he arrived and saw this evidence of God's blessing, he was filled with joy, and he encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord. (24) Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord. (25) Then Barnabas went on to Tarsus to look for Saul. (26) When he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. Both of them stayed there with the church for a full year, teaching large crowds of people. (It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians.)
(使徒 11:22-26) この知らせが、エルサレムにある教会に聞こえたので、彼らはバルナバをアンテオケに派遣した。(23) 彼はそこに到着したとき、神の恵みを見て喜び、みなが心を堅く保って、常に主にとどまっているようにと励ました。(24) 彼はりっぱな人物で、聖霊と信仰に満ちている人であった。こうして、大ぜいの人が主に導かれた。(25) バルナバはサウロを捜しにタルソへ行き、(26) 彼に会って、アンテオケに連れて来た。そして、まる一年の間、彼らは教会に集まり、大ぜいの人たちを教えた。弟子たちは、アンテオケで初めて、キリスト者と呼ばれるようになった。
Trusted with a greater calling
大きな使命において信頼されている
(Acts 13:1-3) Among the prophets and teachers of the church at Antioch of Syria were Barnabas, Simeon (called "the black man"), Lucius (from Cyrene), Manaen (the childhood companion of King Herod Antipas), and Saul. (2) One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Dedicate Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them." (3) So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.
(使徒 13:1-3) さて、アンテオケには、そこにある教会に、バルナバ、ニゲルと呼ばれるシメオン、クレネ人ルキオ、国主ヘロデの乳兄弟マナエン、サウロなどという預言者や教師がいた。(2) 彼らが主を礼拝し、断食をしていると、聖霊が、「バルナバとサウロをわたしのために聖別して、わたしが召した任務につかせなさい。」と言われた。(3) そこで彼らは、断食と祈りをして、ふたりの上に手を置いてから、送り出した。
Giving a second chance

(Acts 15:36-40) After some time Paul said to Barnabas, "Let's go back and visit each city where we previously preached the word of the Lord, to see how the new believers are doing." (37) Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark. (38) But Paul disagreed strongly, since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work. (39) Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus. (40) Paul chose Silas, and as he left, the believers entrusted him to the Lord's gracious care.
(使徒 15:36-40) 幾日かたって後、パウロはバルナバにこう言った。「先に主のことばを伝えたすべての町々の兄弟たちのところに、またたずねて行って、どうしているか見て来ようではありませんか。」 (37) ところが、バルナバは、マルコとも呼ばれるヨハネもいっしょに連れて行くつもりであった。(38) しかしパウロは、パンフリヤで一行から離れてしまい、仕事のために同行しなかったような者はいっしょに連れて行かないほうがよいと考えた。(39) そして激しい反目となり、その結果、互いに別行動をとることになって、バルナバはマルコを連れて、船でキプロスに渡って行った。(40) パウロはシラスを選び、兄弟たちから主の恵みにゆだねられて出発した。
